Word of the day - hortatory

This word came up in Bishop Dr Tony Ritchie's paper this morning - which I really enjoyed and about which more tomorrow.
However I don't think I have ever come across the word hortatory before - strange really as it is a linguistic term. I love new words. It is always humbling to encounter them - my colleague Rosemarie repeated to me early on in my job as a translator something her professor of translation said to her early on in her training - "Your first foreign language is always your mother tongue."

and so to bed.
